About Orthokine Therapy

Orthokine is an anti-aging treatment that contains growth factors as well as anti-inflammatory and repair compounds. It stimulates the naturally occurring collagen in your skin to promote elasticity, boost volume and aid in healing. It also promotes hair follicle health, helping to regrow hair and reverse the hair loss and thinning process.

Whether you choose this treatment for hair or skin, the procedure is fairly similar. You’ll start with a consultation to discuss your skin or hair condition as well as the goals for the procedure. The Consultant, nurse or doctor will help you determine if you’re a suitable candidate for this treatment.

If you decide to move forward, a small sample of your blood will be extracted. The practitioner will remove enough blood to produce the total amount of serum that you’ll need for the entire treatment plan. Practitioners typically remove two 10-milliliter vials of blood if you are undergoing 4 separate treatments.

Then, your blood is placed in incubation for 6–9 hours. This process separates the cellular matter of your blood and extracts the super-concentrated rich growth factors and cytokines from your blood.

After that, the blood is separated with a centrifuge to remove platelets, cells and plasma. The process transforms the blood into a serum that contains four times as much growth factor as the original sample.

For hair, the growth factors and cytokines are then reintroduced into stubborn areas of the scalp where hair loss has occurred (typically crown and temple) via injections. Then the micro-needling process begins. Micro-needling creates small and controlled injuries to the scalp. Micro-needling encourages blood flow and sends signals to the body to produce growth factors that are responsible for hair regrowth. When the concentrated growth factors and cytokines serum is applied along with the micro-needling procedure, it will sink deeply into the scalp and begin the hair regrowth process.

Similar to hair, the growth factors and cytokines are reintroduced into problem areas (typically under eyes, and cheeks) via injections. Then the micro-needling process begins. Micro-needling creates small and controlled injuries to the skin, sending signals to the body to produce growth factors that are responsible for healing and skin rejuvenation. When the concentrated serum is applied along with the micro-needling procedure, it will sink deeply into the skin and begin the healing process to rejuvenate your skin.

More Details About the Treatment

Orthokine therapy can improve the tone and texture of your skin. It smooths fine lines and wrinkles, treating them from the inside out. The treatment can also enhance the skin’s firmness, elasticity and brightness. Ultimately, it slows the ageing process.

However, Orthokine therapy isn’t just valuable as a skin treatment. It also improves hair health and encourages hair to grow. Because Orthokine rejuvenates the tissues surrounding the hair follicles, it can stimulate them to function normally if they have been impaired.

When used for hair thinning and loss, Orthokine can regrow hair, thicken strands, improve the condition of the scalp and slow the rate of hair loss. It also activates the proliferative stage of hair growth. It triggers dormant follicles to begin functioning again. This typically results in a fuller head of hair.

Difference Between PRP and Orthokine Therapy

Orthokine therapy and platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, treatments are both referred to as “vampire facials.” Both begin with blood extraction and involve separating the liquid to concentrate the healing factors. However, PRP is often activated by the addition of certain liquids, such as thrombin or calcium chloride. Orthokine therapy uses only the compounds that came from your own blood.

When you undergo PRP therapy, blood samples are usually taken each time you arrive for treatment. Although extracting blood is fairly painless, many people would prefer to limit the procedure if possible.

Finally, Orthokine produces four times as many growth factors as PRP treatments. The additional growth factors should deliver results more effectively and quickly than PRP.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)

No. The micro-needles that are used to deliver Orthokine barely break the skin. This is considered a minimally invasive procedure. A topical anesthetic is used to help the patient stay comfortable during the procedure. Sometimes, Orthokine can be delivered via direct injection or cannulas.

Before the blood sample is collected, make sure that you’re hydrated. More serum can be produced when you have enough water in your system. Drink up to a gallon of water the day before the procedure, and limit your alcohol consumption. Follow the treatment plan to make Orthokine therapy work as efficiently as possible for you.

Orthokine therapy can be used for genetic hair loss or thinning for men and women.

There are two options. We recommend 6 or 12 PRP sessions + 1 Orthokine therapy session or alternatively you can get 4 treatments of Orthokine therapy only, approximately two weeks apart.

Yes. We recommend Orthokine therapy in conjunction with a take home kit involving copper peptide and/or minoxidil. The take home kit is important to continue stimulating your hair follicles to promote healing and encourage hair growth.

Orthokine therapy is used to improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks, large pores, dull skin, wrinkles, fine lines and loose skin.

Many people use Orthokine therapy treatments on the décolletage, face and hands. It can also be used to address crepey skin around the knees and elbows. Orthokine has been shown to be a very effective treatment for hair loss too.

Most people treat skin problems with four treatments of Orthokine at bi-weekly intervals.

You might experience some redness or irritation after the treatment. It usually subsides within a day or two. However, there is a very low risk of side effects from this treatment because the compound is made from your own blood.

For hair conditions, you typically see results as your hair begins to grow longer and fuller. You may not notice this happening for several months, though. Orthokine results for skin should start to appear within two weeks of treatment. You’ll continue to see improvements after each subsequent session.
