What are PRP treatments?

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. It’s a treatment that uses elements of your own blood to provide a boost when and where you need it most.

Your blood plasma is rich in platelets and growth factors normally used throughout your body for cell growth and regeneration.

PRP treatments use this blood plasma, concentrate it and then inject it to where you need it most.

PRP skin treatments

The idea of PRP skin treatments is to use all that growth and healing potential in your blood plasma to target problem areas. The growth factors in your blood can help stimulate collagen and elastin growth.

Both collagen and elastin contribute to younger looking skin and can help reduce wrinkles, fine lines, crow’s feet and other conditions.

The plasma can also encourage skin to regenerate and help tackle hyper pigmentation and other skin tone conditions.

PRP hair treatments

PRP hair treatments use the same growth factors in your blood to target hair follicles. The same growth factors can help regenerate those hair follicles and encourage them to begin regrowing hair.

This provides a non-surgical, non-pharmaceutical treatment for a range of conditions including thinning hair, hair loss, male pattern baldness and a number of common ailments.

How are PRP treatments performed?

One of the key benefits of PRP in Sydney is that it’s quick, painless and requires no recovery time.

The process looks a little like this:

  1. We draw a small amount of blood, like a blood test to provide the platelets.
  2. We place the blood in a centrifuge to separate the blood into its constituent parts and extract the platelet rich plasma.
  3. We inject the platelet rich plasma into the affected area.
  4. We then treat the injection site with a yellow LED light to help minimise inflammation, promote healing and deliver nutrients to the hair follicles or skin.
  5. You leave the clinic and go about your day!

Most PRP appointments last around 45 minutes and require no recovery time. You can schedule an appointment for a lunch hour, when you’re in town or whenever you like, confident in the knowledge that nobody will know you’re undergoing treatment.

Where did PRP come from?

PRP treatments were originally developed to help treat sports injuries. Using the same principles as for skin treatments, the idea was to inject concentrated amounts of growth factors into injuries to help promote faster recovery.

The treatment was widely regarded as successful and was developed as a cosmetic treatment to help treat hair loss and a wide range of skin conditions.

Hair and Skin Science quickly recognized the potential for PRP treatments and set up a clinic in Sydney. We were one of the first clinics to specialise in PRP hair treatments in Australia and are leaders in PRP skin treatments and PRP facials.

We have performed over 50,000 of them so far with amazing success!

PRP treatment FAQs

Yes, PRP treatments are safe. The treatment uses your own blood and nothing else. This minimizes the risk of side effects and reduces any potential harm from chemicals or drugs.

All treatments are undertaken by registered nurses who are qualified experts in hygienic, discreet surroundings to further reduce any potential for discomfort.

The speed at which PRP in Sydney takes to work depends entirely on your age, health, genetics and what we are treating. Everyone reacts differently, so it’s impossible to predict accurately how long it will take for PRP treatments to work.

However, on average, it takes anywhere from 4-6 weeks to begin seeing improvements with significant results showing within 3 months. PRP treatments are cumulative, so will need a while to begin making a tangible impact.

Yes, PRP hair treatments really can help with hair regrowth. We have treated thousands of Australians who were suffering with thinning hair, hair loss, male pattern baldness and other conditions. The vast majority of them saw definite improvements in hair growth, thickness or both!

Everyone is different of course, but our experience shows us that PRP hair treatment really does deliver on its promises.

Yes, PRP skin treatments can deliver genuine results. Like PRP hair treatments, everyone is different and will respond in different ways. That said, we have treated many thousands of people across Australia and the vast majority were happy with the results.

Also, like PRP hair treatments, everyone is different and will respond in different ways so there are no guarantees. The odds are definitely in your favour though!

Appointments for PRP treatments are a relaxed experience. You’re welcomed into our clinic and taken into a consulting room. We’ll take a small measure of blood, just like a blood test. We will then separate the platelet rich plasma in a centrifuge, place it into a microneedler and inject it into the affected area.

Finally, we apply a yellow LED light to the treated area to minimize inflammation and help promote healing. Once complete, you’re free to go about your day!

There is no set number of PRP treatments you’ll need. Much will depend on your age, overall health and wellbeing and the severity of the condition we are treating. Your genetics come into it too as some people heal faster than others.

PRP hair treatments tend to require around 6-10 visits spread 2-3 weeks apart. Once treatment concludes, top up visits to maintain hair growth may be required.

PRP skin treatments can vary between 1-5 treatments depending on what we’re treating. We would also recommend top up treatments to maintain the effect.

We would be able to provide a much more detailed treatment plan after a consultation as we would have much more information on what we’re dealing with.
