Signs of male-pattern baldness

Male-pattern baldness is a condition that impacts both the young and old. About 1 in5 men in their 20’s experience it and that number increases to nearly 50% by the time men hit their 40’s. Although the Czech Republic takes the top spot for the highest percentage of male-pattern baldness, Australia has a unique set of conditions which contribute to hair loss.

In this blog we are going to discuss the signs of male-pattern baldness and where you can find the best treatment.

What is male-pattern baldness?

As the name implies, it is a condition that affects the head hair of men. It is sometimes referred to as androgenic alopecia. It can start in a minor way and at any age and then develops slowly into a much more noticeable problem.

It is the thinning or complete loss of hair on the head, specifically the top and front of the head. The later stages of this condition often look like a C shaped ring of hair from one ear to the other.

Signs of Male-Pattern Baldness

Noticing the signs early can often increase the effectiveness of treatments.

If you notice your hair is thinning and you can begin to see your scalp with minimal effort or without moving your hair out of the way, then it may be early signs of male-pattern baldness. This is an ideal time to seek treatment as you still have the hair and you may be able to promote strength and growth in the current hair follicles.

Perhaps you have more aggressive symptoms and you notice your hair falling out or bald patches have already formed. This doesn’t mean all hope is lost! Treatments are available for even the later stages of male-pattern baldness, but as stated, it is best to begin treatment early.

A big part of detecting the signs is being aware. It is easy as a man to brush symptoms aside until they become too obvious. If you notice your hair is lighter in colour, it could be because more of the scalp is visible. Perhaps you notice more hair on your pillow when you wake up, or in your hands while you are washing or styling your hair. These are signs that can be easy to ignore, but shouldn’t.

Male-pattern baldness can be a huge confidence destroyer for young men. It can be for older men too, but as we age it is almost expected that men will bald. It doesn’t need to be this way!
