What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?
PRP stands for platelet rich plasma, an important element in your blood that contains growth factors known to stimulate cell growth. Rather than using chemicals, PRP treatments use your own blood to help stimulate growth and rejuvenate the treated area.
PRP treatments can be incredibly effective at treating a range of conditions including hair loss, Alopecia, scars, stretch marks, wounds, dark circles under the eyes and ageing skin.

How do PRP Treatments Work?
PRP treatments work by using your own blood to target specific areas that may need a little rejuvenation.
It uses platelet rich plasma in that blood that contains growth factors to help stimulate cell growth.
The treatment begins by taking some blood, just like a blood test. We place this blood into a centrifuge. The centrifuge spins the blood at high speed, which separates its constituent components.
Blood plasma floats to the top, platelets are in the middle and the red blood cells sink to the bottom. This enables us to extract the platelet rich plasma from that blood ready for use.
PRP treatments use a microneedler to introduce these platelets back into your skin. Those platelets can help stimulate the growth of hair follicles, skin elastin and collagen, which can help address certain conditions.
As PRP treatments use no chemicals, no anaesthetic and no surgery, there is no recovery time, no scarring and no adverse effects.
Some patients experience redness and tenderness for a short time but otherwise, PRP treatments are free of any side effects!
As an added benefit, we use LED alongside all PRP treatments in Melbourne.
LED light can help control inflammation and prevent swelling, which helps minimise any visible effects of the treatment.
Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment Melbourne
We offer three main PRP treatments in Melbourne. They include:
PRP Hair Treatment
PRP hair treatment uses those growth factor-rich platelets to stimulate hair growth and blood supply to the follicle. This can have a beneficial effect for those experiencing genetic hair loss, stress-related hair loss or androgenetic alopecia.
PRP Skin Treatments
PRP skin treatments use the same growth factor-rich platelets from your blood to stimulate collagen and elastin growth in your skin. The treatment can be effective in treating the signs of ageing, sagging skin, stretch marks, scars, discolouration and wounds.
PRP (Vampire) Facials
PRP facials, also known as vampire facials, use the same principles to target the face. By targeting specific areas of the face, we use the growth factor-rich platelets to help stimulate skin cell growth and the generation of elastic and collagen. Vampire facials are known globally as an effective anti-ageing treatment.

PRP Treatment FAQs
All blood is special, but blood platelets are particularly so. Platelets contain lots of useful elements, including growth factors. These growth factors help stimulate cell growth while travelling around your body. We isolate and concentrate them to help promote growth in hair follicles, skin collagen and elastin.
Platelet rich plasma injections can last up to 18 months. Much depends on your skin, your general health and genetics, so it’s impossible to give you a concrete time. In our experience, you’ll probably experience positive effects for between 12-18 months before you need another treatment.
The theory behind PRP treatments uses your own growth factors to stimulate cell rejuvenation. All that takes a little time so you’ll need to wait up to a few weeks to begin noticing positive changes. We’re all different and react in different ways, so some will see changes sooner than others.
PRP hair treatments are very common and are gaining popularity all the time. The growth factors in your blood can help stimulate follicle growth while the treatment also increases blood flow to those follicles, which is essential for them to function. Both these things can help regrow hair and we have treated many thousands of people for this exact condition!
A PRP treatment appointment will usually take between 45 minutes and an hour. Procedures are non-invasive, require no anaesthetic and no recovery time either. We will draw some blood, run it through our centrifuge and reintroduce it to the affected area using our microneedler. Once complete, you can leave right away and go about your day!
It is exceptionally rare to experience any side effects with platelet rich plasma treatment in Melbourne. As everyone is different, it’s impossible to say for sure but after 45,000 treatments, we can safely say the worst you’re likely to experience is tenderness and redness around the face for a few hours.
PRP treatment is regarded as very safe, with minimal chance of complications. Anyone over 18 can undergo the treatment, with just a few exceptions. Anyone with HIV, AIDS, hepatitis C, any type of blood cancer or skin cancer at the treatment area will not be able to undergo treatment. Also, anyone on blood thinners will also not be able to undertake PRP treatment in Melbourne.
PRP treatments are very safe. We are using your own blood after all. This type of autologous treatment eliminates the potential for rejection or issues using compounds or chemicals. The risk of allergy or side effects is also minimal as we’re using your own platelets on your own skin.
